Maybe not as scarce as you might think. Maybe those of us that bear the ability are just unable to recognize others that also bear it. Or maybe we just don't see, the nature of the design blinding each bearer to those like them, thus ensuring that they remain isolated and alone. Except that sometimes such souls defy nature (or odds) and encounter one another, coming together to form a bond, something akin to friendship. But maybe that too is by design, to remind such people what it is they endure when they've become accustomed to the weight they carry, maybe to give them a brief respite when they are at their weakest and about to break, or maybe just to torment them further by increasing the weight they carry when things go wrong and they find themselves alone again.
